Browse all guidesThere is no single simplest choice for everyone. Hire Purchase is often easier to understand because payments lead to ownership, while PCP can lower monthly payments but adds an end-of-agreement decision.
An eligibility check may use a soft search, which normally does not affect your score. A formal application can use a hard search. Always check what type of search will be made before continuing.
Many agreements can be settled early by requesting a settlement figure. The cost and process depend on your agreement, so compare the figure with the car’s current value before deciding.
Contact the finance provider as early as possible and explain the situation. Avoid missing payments without speaking to them, and seek free debt guidance if you need broader support.
PCP often has lower monthly payments because part of the car’s value is deferred. That does not automatically make it cheaper overall, especially if you pay the optional final payment to keep the car.
